The preposition start requires understanding of what a preposition means.

  1. a word governing, and usually preceding, a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause, as in ‘the man on the platform’, ‘she arrived after dinner’, ‘what did you do it for ?’.

A good way to teach "Exploring the Subject" 
Looking over a student's writing. Ask them to separate each sentence by pushing Enter 2x after each full stop.

Count the number of words in each sentence - 18-21 words is a really good sentence. "Is there anywhere you can add a full stop?" for the sentences that are too long.

Move onto the sentence starters and highlight them (make them bold - ctrl B). "How can you move these around?" - look for words used in the rest of the sentence and try to use them to rewrite the start (adverb, W, or preposition start)

Feedforward codes: Using colours to highlight aspects of the writing for the students to edit. 
BLue: Sentence length
Green: Start sentence with this word
Gold: 'Gold dust' - something great here
Pink: Alert to an error

To develop a seven sentence paragraph encourage students to write sentences that contain the following:
- Explore
- Adverb start
- W start
- Very short
- W start
- Adverb start
- Free choice

Blogging Workshop

This was an opportunity to teach some of my colleagues - RCR, MV, RNA, MAN - how to create a blog using this very platform.

I encountered some difficulties at first, when we discovered there was no adaptor to connect my laptop to the projector. This was all solved in matter of minutes - lesson learnt!

All four participants were eager and willing to learn, asking questions when deeper understanding was required.

I really enjoyed demonstrating the basics of creating a blog and supporting my colleagues in developing the knowledge to move forward with their blog's independently.
